ACTFL Statement on Terrorist Attacks in Israel

Share:

ACTFL unequivocally condemns the recent violent acts of terrorism by Hamas against Israeli civilians. We also oppose retaliatory measures that have resulted in the death and oppression of Palestinian civilians, especially in Gaza. We are saddened by the tragic loss of life in all affected regions and horrified by the brutality of these events. We express our support, sorrow, love, and hope to all those who have suffered loss in Israel and Palestine.

Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and xenophobia have no place in society—in the U.S. or across the globe, and they should be called out at every turn. Our thoughts are with the Israeli and Palestinian civilians; we hope for a swift end to the current conflict and for lasting peace in the region.

As language educators, it is important that we offer comfort and support to our students during this time, especially to those most affected.
