“Collaborating with peers for ACTFL has connected me to other teachers in the field and helped Less Commonly Taught Languages to have representation in major discussions. I invite my colleagues to volunteer, promote awareness for the World Languages, and grow professionally!”

Eugênia Fernandes
University of California, Davis

“Being a member of ACTFL has expanded my ability to connect with language teachers all over the country. I have learned so much from other members and strengthened my network for language acquisition advocacy! I look forward to being able to connect with even more language professionals in the future and collaborating to continue my work with DEI!”

Armando O. Johnson
Central High School, Springfield, MO

“ACTFL membership helps me stay updated and engaged with the language-teaching profession. The networking opportunities also serve as my personal affinity group: this is where I vent, receive validation, learn, and find ways to cope with the many challenges faced by language teachers.”

Angelica DaSilva
Middle Tennessee State University

“ACTFL has helped me on every step of the way in my professional journey--from when I was a novice teacher and needed activities to engage my students on Monday morning, to later in my career when I met other scholars in my field through ACTFL SIGs who became my collaborators on research and projects to advance our profession.”

Victoria Russell
Valdosta State University

“ACTFL provided me with all the resources needed to become a phenomenal teacher. ACTFL gave me the pedagogical support to engage my learners at K-12 level and the university level. ACTFL made it easy to address culture in my classrooms. ACTFL gave me a sense of belonging.”

Marie-Conceptia Girault
Greenville County Schools

“Volunteering with ACTFL is such a rewarding and fulfilling experience for me. I love having the opportunity to work with World Language educators who are just beginning their careers as educators and sharing my experiences with them as a mentor. Having the chance to serve on ACTFL awards and scholarships committees as a volunteer is equally rewarding. I’m so glad that ACTFL affords its members these opportunities!”

Heidi Trude
Loudoun County Public Schools
