ACTFL and Language Testing International (LTI), the exclusive licensee of ACTFL assessments, announce the launch of the 2023-24 ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) on September 15, 2023. The AAPPL is the only test having items which encompass a variety of topics across all modes of communication: Interpersonal Listening and Speaking (ILS), Presentational Writing (PW), and Interpretive Reading and Interpretive Listing (IR and IL) as defined by the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.

The 2023-24 AAPPL is available in 11 languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Earlier this year, the AAPPL, through LTI, became third-party certified for compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), strengthening our commitment to safeguard learners’ personal identifiable information (PII). As featured in a recent announcement, the groundbreaking automated scoring system will be used for all Spanish PW responses, along with certified human raters.

The AAPPL, developed by ACTFL and administered by LTI, is an assessment of performance toward proficiency, designed to complement classroom-based language learning. It is an assessment of standards-based tasks for learners in Grades 3-12.

Detailed information about the AAPPL, including information on scores and reporting and helpful tips, can be found on the ACTFL website. Meet some of this year’s AAPPL Video Chat Partners (VCP)! VCP Group 1 | VCP Group 2
