ACTFL is pleased to announce the first Foreign Language Annals (FLA) Graduate Diversity Publications Intern for May 2022-April 2023, Daniel Ferguson. A former Fulbright teaching assistant, Mr. Ferguson is a language teacher with over ten years of experience teaching German and English in the US and Austria. He is in his second year of the PhD program in multilingual language education at The Ohio State University. A multilingual with proficiency in French, German, Serbian and Spanish, Mr. Ferguson has worked or studied abroad in four countries and has taught German, English, and theatre and currently teaches at Dublin City Schools in Ohio.

As the inaugural FLA Graduate Diversity Publications intern, Mr. Ferguson will work with Editor Dr. Julie Sykes to review pre-publication journal articles, analyze metrics for the journal and hold article discussion sessions and information sessions on publishing in FLA for graduate students. The goal of the internship is to provide a meaningful, relevant, and useful experience for a future leader in world language education and research on the process of publishing a professional journal. Dr. Julie Sykes, FLA Editor, states, “I was thrilled by the quality of applications to this new program and am delighted to welcome Daniel as the first of, we hope, many such interns.”

Howie Berman, ACTFL’s Executive Director, says, “Diversity, equity and inclusion, and research are two of ACTFL’s strategic pillars. Daniel’s work with FLA will not only support the journal’s excellent work but also provide additional opportunities for outreach to graduate students, who represent our field’s future.”
