ACTFL is proud to announce that Drs. Kristin Davin and Francis Troyan will serve as Co-Editors of the scholarly journal Foreign Language Annals (FLA) effective May 1, 2024. They have served as Interim Co-Editors since August 2023.
Drs. Davin and Troyan have broad experience in language teaching, learning, and research. Their leadership at the journal has provided continuity and innovation.
Currently Professor of Foreign Language Education in the Cato College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Dr. Davin’s award-winning research focuses on second language development and assessment, language teacher development, and the Seal of Biliteracy. She has received numerous awards, including the Stephen A. Freeman Award for best published article in language teaching, the Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education, and the Thomas L. Reynolds Leadership Award for Excellence in Graduate Program Administration. A former K-12 Spanish teacher, Davin has published two books as co-author with Dr. Amy Heineke and numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles.
Dr. Troyan is Associate Professor of Multilingual Language Education and Critical Transformative Education at The Ohio State University. His research focuses on language teacher identity and systemic functional linguistics. He serves as Co-Director of the Buckeye Language Education Resource Center and faculty advisor for the B.S.ED and M.Ed. programs in world language education, and is Director of the online graduate certificate program in core practices for world language education. The author of dozens of peer-reviewed chapters and journal articles, he is also co-author of The Integrated Performance Assessment: Twenty Years and Counting with Bonnie Adair-Hauck and Eileen Glisan. A former French, Spanish, and English Learner teacher, he regularly conducts overseas Fulbright projects focused on practice-based approaches.

Foreign Language Annals is the official journal of ACTFL, first published in 1967. FLA is a refereed journal published four times per year. The journal is dedicated to expanding the awareness and understanding among language education professionals of current research, pedagogy, and challenges facing the profession. According to the most recent Journal Citation Report, FLA has a two-year Impact Factor of 2.7.
