ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Title IV, Part A Coalition, comprised of more than 75 national organizations, including the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), released the following statement in response to the House Labor HHS Education Appropriations Subcommittee’s decision to provide $1 billion in FY17 to the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants Program (SSAEG):

ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Tuesday, June 7, the U.S. Senate Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (LHHS) Appropriations Subcommittee voted to advance its FY17 funding bill. The bill includes $300 million for the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants—a new program created under Title IV, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)—which provides for funding for foreign language education along with other academic subject areas.
