ACTFL and Language Testing International (LTI), the exclusive licensee of ACTFL assessments, are pleased to announce that the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) Form E will be available for French, effective September 15, 2022. AAPPL Form E is comprised solely of the Interpersonal Listening & Speaking (ILS) mode and is designed specifically for learners in Grades 3 and 4. AAPPL Form E is currently available in Spanish, English, and Chinese (Mandarin).

The AAPPL Form E includes standards-based tasks for the Interpersonal mode of communication, as defined by the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. The AAPPL Form E focuses on Novice to Intermediate levels of proficiency, as described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, and ratings are assigned according to the ACTFL Performance Descriptors for Language Learners.

Proficiency and performance assessments are both vital paths to measuring learners' language ability and adjusting curricula and instruction to meet their needs. For more information on performance and proficiency, refer to page 4 in the ACTFL Performance Descriptors for Language Learners. The AAPPL Form E provides young learners in Grades 3 and 4 with an opportunity to demonstrate their language performance and progress toward proficiency within contexts that are age-appropriate and with content that is of interest to the learners.

The ACTFL website provides more detailed information about the AAPPL Form E including links to demos and helpful tools for teachers. To view the full list of topics and more, please click here. For information on ordering the AAPPL, visit LTI.
