ACTFL and the Language Connects Foundation (LCF) are proud to announce the establishment of the ACTFL/LCF Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Classroom. This prestigious award aims to recognize the efforts of language educators at all levels who have intentionally and effectively fostered accessible spaces of belonging for their learners. These outstanding educators have embraced diverse perspectives and integrated equitable and inclusive principles into their classroom curriculum and projects, enabling all students, including those with special needs, to develop linguistic and cultural competence.
Aligned with ACTFL's steadfast commitment to develop and promote a diverse and inclusive language education community, this award seeks to inspire programs and initiatives that encourage meaningful communication, foster global citizenship both in and out of the classroom, and recognize the positive role diversity, equity, and inclusion play in language education. Additionally, the award acknowledges educators and students who actively affirm and promote antiracism and social justice.
“ACTFL and LCF are excited to recognize and honor language educators who are making a significant impact in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom,” said Krishauna Hines-Gaither, co-chair of the ACTFL DEI Committee.
“By acknowledging and celebrating their outstanding efforts, we hope to inspire and encourage the continued pursuit of excellence in language education,” continued DEI Committee Co-Chair Adrienne Brandenburg.
The recipient of this prestigious award will receive a $1,000 honorarium and a complimentary one-year membership to ACTFL. Nominations will be accepted May 30 through July 7, with the inaugural presentation scheduled to take place at the ACTFL 2023 Convention and World Language Expo in November 2023.
