Taiwan-ACTFL Future Educator Scholarship

ACTFL is excited to partner with the Ministry of Education in Taiwan (MOE) to provide U.S. citizens with the Taiwan-ACTFL Future Educator Scholarship to develop American Mandarin Chinese teachers.

The scholarship will award up to 20 slots. It includes one-year Huayu Enrichment Scholarship for Mandarin Chinese learning in Taiwan followed by a four-year Taiwan Scholarship for pursuing bachelor’s degree or followed by a two-year scholarship for master’s degree on Mandarin Chinese teaching in Taiwan.

Applicant Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be a high school graduate or above, have excellent academic performance in his/her most recent formal educational study experience, be of good moral character, and not have any criminal records.
  • Must be an ACTFL member. (Click here to join ACTFL)
  • Graduates from colleges of education are preferred.

Scholarship Details:

Option 1: Bachelor’s Degree Track (5 years)

  • 1-year Huayu Enrichment Scholarship with a monthly stipend of NT$28,000/month (approximately US$900)
  • 4-year Taiwan Scholarship: NT$15,000/month (approximately US$500) plus tuition waiver up to NT$40,000 per year (approximately US$1,330) for a bachelor's degree program

Option 2: Master’s Degree Track (3 years)

  • 1-year Huayu Enrichment Scholarship: NT$28,000/month (approximately US$900)
  • 2-year Taiwan Scholarship: NT$20,000/month (approximately US$660) plus tuition waiver up to NT$40,000 per year (approximately US$1,330) for a master's degree program

Application period: February 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026

Please note: A person in any of the following categories is ineligible to apply:

  • An R.O.C. national or an overseas Chinese student.
  • A person who already has registered and/or is continuing to maintain student status at any university/college in Taiwan.
  • An exchange student or dual/joint degree student who has been admitted to a university/college in Taiwan in accordance with an academic cooperation agreement between that university/college and an overseas university/college.
  • A person who has ever previously had their Taiwan Scholarship or MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship revoked.
  • A person who has received any other scholarship or subsidy from any Taiwan government institution (organization) or any education institution in Taiwan.
  • A person who has a Taiwan Alien Permanent Resident Certificate.
