Professional Development Workshops

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is the world’s most trusted resource for expert-led professional development workshops on language teaching and testing. Institutions of higher learning, school districts (public and private) and the U.S. Government turn to ACTFL when they need reliable, expert-led professional development for language educators at all levels of instruction for language teaching and testing. With more than 30 years of proficiency tester training and language assessment experience, ACTFL Professional Development workshops are your best choice.

ACTFL Workshops are led by nationally-recognized experts who specialize in these specific content areas. Most ACTFL workshops are scheduled by individual institutions, organizations, and/or school districts/university systems. They are provided on-site at the date(s) and time(s) determined by the hosting institution. Select from the following types of workshops to learn more:

Proficiency and Assessment Workshops

The Center for Assessment, Research and Development offers professional learning and certification opportunities focused on the assessment of language proficiency and performance along with their implications for teaching and learning. ACTFL assessments such as the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), the Assessment of Performance towards Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL), and the Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) provide concrete opportunities to apply language assessment principles as well as the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and the ACTFL Performance Descriptors for Language Learners. Workshops are anchored by the principle that effective assessment practices enhance language acquisition.
