Making Languages Our Business (2026)

New Data on the Demand for Language Skills Across Sectors

Coming November 2026!

In 2019, ACTFL released our seminal report, Making Languages Our Business: Addressing Language Demand Among U.S. Employers, drawing an undeniable connection between language education and the need for language skills across sectors, professional roles, and company sizes.

In November 2026, during the ACTFL Convention, we will release an entirely updated version of this groundbreaking report featuring all new data about employers’ reflections on the value of language skills, both today and looking ahead to the next five years. This data will empower educators to advocate for local programs and federal funding, students to make informed choices about their academic pathways, and businesses to leverage the unique skills of their communities.

This work is made possible with the generous support of platinum partner Language Testing International, and sponsors Vista Higher Learning, Klett World Languages, and Qatar Foundation International.
