ACTFL works with our members and partners to generate public education about the robust benefits of multilingualism, ensuring that those outside the profession understand the importance of language education and educators have the resources they need to leverage in support of local programs and the direction of U.S. language education at the state and federal levels.
Some of our goals include: sustaining existing language education programs, expanding instruction to include more languages at all levels, and introducing world language instruction to students earlier in their PreK-12 experience.

Many Americans don’t have a thorough understanding of the multifaceted and dynamic nature of language education today. Language learning happens in a wide range of environments—from traditional classrooms to homes, community centers, weekend schools, churches, online and hybrid options, and beyond—and language learners come in all ages and from all backgrounds, including heritage speakers and those learning target languages.
