National Capital Language Resource Center

The National Capital Language Resource Center (NCLRC), a consortium of Georgetown University, George Washington University, and the Center for Applied Linguistics, conducts activities in the areas of testing, learning strategies, materials development and methodology, technology, professional development, and dissemination of information on commonly and less commonly taught languages. Its online resources include an e-newsletter, a website for university-level language teachers who want to review or develop their skills in communicative language teaching, and a portfolio assessment guide. There are also Arabic, Chinese, and Russian webcasts, and a “Bloggers’ Den” that includes blogs in Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Norwegian, and Spanish.

Resources About Sri Lanka

The official language of the country is Sinhala and Tamil is the second national language, although English is commonly used in government.

The Sri Lanka Tourism site (www.srilankatourism.org) has information about travel and accommodations as well as places to visit in the country. The site is available in English, German, Italian, and Arabic.
Japanese Tooth Fairy Project

The Tooth Fairy Project site features the story of the tooth fairy presented in Japanese, as well as a clay animation of the tooth fairy. The project collects and recycles metal used in dental treatment in order to benefit children.
Women in Early China

Anne Behnke Kinney, a professor of Chinese at the University of Virginia, is the project director of this bilingual resource for the study of women in early China, which focuses on Lienüzhuan (Traditions of Exemplary Women) of Liu Xiang. The book contains biographical accounts of female role models in early China, and this site provides texts, essays, and other resources to offer insights into the culture, politics, and social structure of early China.
