Phonetics Flash Animation Project

This site contains animated libraries of the phonetic sounds of English, German, and Spanish. Available for each consonant and vowel is an animated articulatory diagram, a stepby- step description, and video–audio of the sound spoken in context. It is intended for students of phonetics, linguistics, and foreign languages. There is also an interactive diagram of the articulatory anatomy. The project was a collaborative effort of the Departments of Spanish and Portuguese, German, Speech Pathology and Audiology, and Academic Technologies at the University of Iowa.
The Endangered Language Fund

On this new website, you will find an updated list of the Endangered Language Fund’s (ELF) grants, information about some of the new projects going on at ELF, an archive of recent newsletters, and the beginning of its online language archive. ELF archives materials collected on its grants, and makes them available to endangered language speakers and to the scholarly community. It also digitizes audio files to make available online.

This educational website designed for kids offers primary links such as: Explore Japan, Culture Corner, Cookbook for Kids, Kids’ Life, Say it in Japanese, Hi-tech Japan, and Kids Travel Agency. Each primary link contains sublinks, such as options to study a map or annual calendar of Japan under Explore Japan, or options to review basic recipes or read feature articles under Cookbook for Kids, or learn about protecting the environment under Hi-tech Japan. Along with the primary content links, the website offers quizzes, games, greeting cards, and gallery photos, among other fun interactive tools.

Spanish Numbers Learning Site

This website allows the student to choose a set of numbers between one and 100, and scroll their cursor over them one by one to hear each pronounced correctly. It also shows how they are spelled. This is a great way to reinforce the learning of numbers for students who need more practice.

LingNet

The LingNet website is a service provided by the Defense Language Institute (DLI) Foreign Language Center. LingNet hosts materials developed at DLI by the Curriculum Development Division. These include both the “Countries in Perspective” series and the Global Language Online Support System (GLOSS). The LingNet website also hosts materials developed by other government and Department of Defense agencies.
