Spanish Teacher Scholarship

CELAS Maya offers this scholarship with the intention of improving the professional capacities and skills of Spanish teachers in the United States so as to improve the educational experience of Spanish students. Additionally, the varied enrollment at CELAS Maya intends to offer teachers the opportunity to communicate and connect with other disciplines, such as medicine, law, theology and university students. ACTFL has the right to provide your name and contact information to the scholarship provider.

Scholarship includes:

  • tuition for 2 weeks of intensive 1-on-1 Spanish study (4 hours per day)**
  • 2 weeks of accommodation in a host family (including meals and private room)
  • a day trip to one of the touristic spots in or around Quetzaltenango

** winners of this scholarship have the option of changing one week of Spanish instruction to one week of DELE* preparation
*DELE is an internationally administered exam through the Cervantes Institute in Spain. A diploma from the Cervantes Institute is internationally recognized as a professional measure of Spanish fluidity and knowledge.

Spanish Student Scholarship

CELAS Maya offers this scholarship with the intention of improving a student’s ability to communicate in another language as well as to encourage a more rounded education including history, culture and politics among other topics. This scholarship intends to introduce students to a Global community of Spanish learners and Spanish speakers while improving language and cultural competencies.

Scholarship includes:

  • tuition for 2 weeks of intensive 1-on-1 Spanish study (4 hours daily)
  • 2 weeks of accommodation in a host family (including meals and private room)
  • a day trip to one of the touristic spots in or around Quetzaltenango

Please write an essay in Spanish about a topic of your choice concerning some aspect of Guatemalan culture, education, health, politics or history. Also include why you wish to study in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and what you believe you will gain from this experience. Be as clear and specific as you can. (Note: You should share the ideas expressed in this statement with those whom you ask to write recommendations.) Essays should range between 250-750 words.
