Korean Special Interest Group Mission Statement

At its May 2006 meeting the ACTFL Board approved the formation of a new special interest group (SIG) within ACTFL for Korean instructors.

The mission of Korean SIG of ACTFL will be as follows.

  1. It will provide a networking system within the Korean teaching community and will promote the teaching and learning of Korean Language and culture in the United States of America.  Additionally, it will voice the concerns of Korean language teachers, students, researchers and administrators.
  2. It will provide a venue to share the best teaching practices and knowledge of Korean language teaching and acquisition across all levels, K through 16+ and development of policies of Korean language teaching.  Korean SIG will play a leading role in connecting its members so that they can share among themselves experiences and expertise in teaching methods, curriculum development, teacher training and development, assessment, program supervision, and research findings.
  3. It will encourage and actively assist Korean language teachers, researchers and practitioners to share their work and to communicate with other foreign language professionals in the United States.  It will represent the Korean language teaching community in ACTFL.
