Orlando, FL – The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is pleased to announce the 2014 National Language Teacher of the Year Award has been awarded to Linda Egnatz, a Spanish language teacher from Lincoln-Way Community High School in Frankfort, IL and a member of the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. The award presentation was held during the Opening General Session of the 2013 ACTFL Convention & World Languages Expo in Orlando, FL.
 

Orlando, FL – The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) announced the 2014 President-Elect of the organization during the Opening General Session of its Annual Convention & World Languages Expo, November 22, in Orlando, FL.

Jacqueline Bott Van Houten was elected by the ACTFL membership in the most recent Board Election held in October.

Alexandria, VA (October 11, 2013) — The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages is proud to announce the launch of a collaborative project with the European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe (ECML).  The central aim of the project is to determine what student and initial teachers consider to be good practices in foreign language teaching. The project involves student teachers and initial teachers of languages in the USA and throughout Europe observing foreign language classes and documenting ‘indicators’ of good practices in specific areas.

Alexandria, VA (August 14, 2013) — The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages is pleased to announce the Fall OPI assessment workshop that will be held just prior to the 2013 ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo at the Rosen Centre Hotel, Orlando, FL, from November 18-21, 2013 for the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, and Spanish.

Alexandria, VA (July 25, 2013) – The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) has announced the five finalists for the annual ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year Award. The finalists representing the five geographic regions of the U.S. are:
  • Norma Arroyo: Fossil Ridge High School, Fort Collins, CO; Spanish Language Teacher – Southwest Conference on Language Teaching

Alexandria, VA (July 24, 2013) – Eight recipients/teams have been chosen to participate in Phase II of the ACTFL Research Priorities Project, to conduct research during the 2013-14 academic year. The purpose of the Phase II project is to support empirical research on five priority areas that are critical to improving foreign language education including the following: FL teacher preparation model programs, profiles of high-performing FL teachers, language use in the community, mentoring K-16 FL teachers and classroom discourse, and high-leverage teaching practices.

Alexandria, VA (July 23, 2013) – The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), a member of the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), which was formerly National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), invites individuals to apply to become program reviewers.  Reviewers are trained to assess reports and data submitted to CAEP by institutions looking for recognition of their foreign language teacher education programs through ACTFL.
