Alexandria, VA—The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Research Priorities Project is designed to support empirical research on six priority areas that are currently critical to improving language education. Each project either initiates a new research study, supports/expands a study under way, or explores an emerging research area that is connected to one or more Research Priority areas. The research grants are funded by ACTFL and the National Federation of Modern Language Teachers’ Association (NFMLTA) and the Modern Language Journal (MLJ).

Alexandria, VA—The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), represented by its Executive Director, Marty Abbott, will participate in the newly formed American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) Commission on Language Learning, a national effort to examine the current state of U.S. language education, to project what the nation’s education needs will be in the future, and to offer recommendations for ways to meet those needs.

Alexandria, VA—The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) has pledged to join the Institute of International Education (IIE)’s Generation Study Abroad initiative to double the number of American students who study abroad by the end of the decade. The initiative is also focusing on increasing the diversity of the students who study abroad, ensuring quality, and removing barriers to participation. ACTFL has committed to increasing the number of students who study abroad over the next five years.

Alexandria, VA—The National Standards Collaborative Board  is proud to announce the release of the newly-revised World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages: Fourth Edition.

Washington, DC—The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE), the National Council of State Supervisors for Languages (NCSSFL), and TESOL International Association, have officially drafted recommendations for the implementation of the Seal of Biliteracy.

Alexandria, VA—The National Federation of Modern Language Teachers’ Associations (NFMLTA), the Modern Language Journal (MLJ) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) are pleased to announce a call for applications for the NFMLTA/MLJ/ACTFL Dissertation Support Grants. The purpose of this collaboration between ACTFL and NFMLTA is to help support two graduate students during the research and writing phase of their dissertations that focus on the field of language teaching and learning.
