Post to Year of Languages Bulletin Board Publications YOL Board Home   Post   Search School District : Omaha Public Schools District Banners for YOL Christine Brown, YOL Co-Chair asked that I post this message. I was successful in obtaining funding from our districts community foundation for large banners that have the school district saluting YOL. Here was my application: "The American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) has designated 2005 as “The Year of Languages” (YOL). The purpose of this collaborative effort of language educators at the local, state, and national level: 1) To celebrate the increasing importance of language learning in American education and life; 2) To educate students, parents, and the public in general about the benefits one gains from learning another language; and 3) To communicate the importance of language programs in American education and society. To promote this effort within the Omaha Public Schools, I ask that Omaha School Foundation for $$ to fund OPS-designed promotional posters and materials to advocate YOL in our buildings and schools."
