Welcome to the current Discover Languages® campaign site.

Discover LanguagesDiscover Languages® is the national campaign developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to raise awareness about the cognitive, academic, social, cultural and economic benefits that language learning provides our nation's students.

In addition to year-round advocacy, ACTFL and its members focus particular attention on speaking up for language learning during Discover Languages Month every February, during which a variety a special activities are organized.

To help simplify the process, ACTFL has developed a number of templates, tools, resources, classroom ideas, and activities to help teachers, students, parents and supporters join in the effort. Browse this site to learn more about how you can help educate, advocate and celebrate the power of language learning.

"It's been an honor to promote The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and the "Discover Languages, Discover the World!" campaign. In today's tough economy, I succeeded in achieving my dream career before I even graduated because of my foreign language skills and international experience. Understanding language and culture are critical for success in today's globalized world, yet we face a severe language shortage. My mission is to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of language and culture and to also highlight all of the opportunities through scholarships and supportive organizations like ACTFL that are available to our youth. I wish I had known about these opportunities when I was in school and that I had started learning foreign languages when I was much younger. I hope that my message will inspire others and provide them with the tools for achieving their dreams."
